Weekly Inspiration: Mysteries of Vernacular

Here is a really interesting and well done series of animations created by Myriapod Productions. Each episode explores the origins of a word through a combination of illustration, narration, and animation, and takes over 80 hours to complete! When finished, the series will have 26 episodes: one for each letter of the alphabet.

I really love the style of illustration and animation used in these videos. The simple images and the ways in which they move around work well to show the story the voice is telling. They are quirky, creative, and you learn something very interesting in the end! What's not to enjoy?

Take a look at "Clue" for the letter C below.

  1. I love this so much!! How many are there so far? I want to watch all of them!! How did you find this? I wonder how many people work on it. I love how everything happens over the text on the pages, and the way all different elements are used, some of the things were so unexpected, but perfect!

    1. Aren't they great! I love everything about them, haha. There's only A, C, H, and P so far, but a few more letters are labeled as "coming soon." They are all right here: http://mysteriesofvernacular.com/clue.html

Oh and I came across them a little while ago off of this blog: http://www.thisiscolossal.com. There's some really neat stuff on it.
